Frequently Asked Questions about Sports Therapy & Personal Training

Here you will find answers to the most important questions about my services — from qualifications and pricing to the process and legal clarifications. Can't find your question? Write to me directly.

Are you a physiotherapist?
No, I am a state-recognised sports scientist and work as a sports therapist. What that means: I do not provide medical treatment — I offer evidence-based movement and training guidance, for example as a follow-up training program after completed medical or physiotherapeutic treatment.
Do you bill health insurance directly?
No. My services are private-pay. Reimbursement through private health insurance (PKV — German private insurance) is only possible in exceptional cases and requires individual clarification with your insurer. Reimbursement through statutory health insurance (GKV — German public insurance) is not possible, as I am not a licensed healthcare provider.
Does this replace physiotherapy?
No. Physiotherapy is a medical treatment prescribed by a doctor and carried out by licensed physiotherapists. My follow-up training program starts after your medical treatment has ended and helps you rebuild performance capacity for everyday life and sport.
How much does a training session cost?
A 60-minute training session starts from €90/h. Home visits, outdoor sessions, and longer formats may carry a surcharge. You can find the full pricing overview with package options on our Pricing page. The initial consultation (approx. 30 min) is free and non-binding.
What do I need to know before the initial consultation?
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in — during the initial consultation we can also do a short movement analysis if you like. If you want to train after surgery or with existing physical complaints, please bring your medical clearance and, if available, any doctor's letters or discharge reports. We will discuss your goals, expectations, and current physical condition.
What happens during the initial consultation?
The initial consultation lasts about 30 minutes and is free and non-binding. We talk about your goals, your current situation (including medical clearance where relevant), and your schedule. If you wish, we can do a short movement analysis. By the end, you will know whether my offering fits your situation and what a realistic training rhythm might look like — you can decide at your own pace whether to continue.
Where do training sessions take place?
Three settings are available: (1) home visits at your place (Berlin and surroundings), (2) partner studio (varies by district), or (3) outdoor in Berlin parks (Tempelhofer Feld, Volkspark Friedrichshain, Treptower Park and others). We will find the best setting for you during the initial consultation.
What languages do you speak?
German, English, and Spanish — Spanish is my native language. Training sessions can be conducted entirely in any of these three languages. The initial consultation and all training materials are available in all three languages too.
What are your qualifications?
I hold a 5-year degree in sports science from Cuba (state university), recognised in Germany through the ZAB credential assessment (the German ZAB-Zeugnisbewertung, listed in the Anabin database). I have also completed further training in "Exercise therapy for clinical conditions", "Aqua Trainer Basic", and "Movement therapy for people living with cancer". I have been based in Berlin for 9 years and have 14 years of experience in outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation facilities.
Are you insured?
Yes, I hold professional liability insurance that explicitly covers my sports-therapeutic training and movement guidance (including personal training, senior movement sessions, aqua training, and oncology movement support). Details can be found in the Imprint.
What happens if I cancel at short notice?
Appointments can be rescheduled or cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the session. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the session will be charged at the full rate, unless an alternative appointment is found within the same week. Cancellations due to illness with a medical certificate are of course exempt. Details in our Terms & Conditions.
Do you offer online coaching?
I currently do not offer online coaching as a standard service, because in-person movement analysis and correction is where my expertise lies. In exceptional cases (e.g. after 4+ weeks of in-person training, for plan updates), video calls are possible. Feel free to bring this up during the initial consultation.
What sets you apart from a personal trainer at a gym?
Three things: (1) Academic background — a 5-year sports science degree plus further training in follow-up training, aqua training, and oncological movement. (2) Rehabilitation experience — 14 years in outpatient and inpatient rehab facilities; I know how to structure training sensibly after completed medical treatment. (3) 1:1 format and three languages — no group gym sessions, just individual guidance in DE/EN/ES.
Do you work together with doctors?
Yes, I work closely with medical recommendations. For clients with a medical history or after surgery, I require medical clearance as a prerequisite for training. With your written consent, I can keep your treating physician informed about your training progress. Direct collaboration with medical practices (e.g. as a follow-up training offering) is available through my sister brand MOVETICA.
How much does a home visit cost?
Home visits to the five districts Mitte, Charlottenburg, Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain, and Kreuzberg are available without surcharge. For other Berlin districts (e.g. Schöneberg, Steglitz, Wilmersdorf, Pankow, Neukölln) I charge a travel surcharge of €15–25 per session. For outer districts and the Berlin commuter belt, conditions are agreed individually.
Do you also offer group training?
My standard format is 1:1 training. In individual cases I offer partner training for two people (e.g. couples, friends) at a reduced per-person rate. Groups of 3 or more are available through my sister brand MOVETICA (e.g. senior groups in care homes, corporate fitness).
What is the difference between a sports scientist and a sports therapist?
Sports scientist is my academic degree — a 5-year university diploma (state university Cuba, recognised through the German ZAB credential assessment). Sports therapist describes the work I do on the basis of that qualification: evidence-based movement and training guidance. The title "sports therapist" (Sporttherapeut) is not a protected healthcare title in Germany — I want to make that clear explicitly. My services are training guidance and movement programs — not diagnosis, not medical treatment.
What exactly is a follow-up training program after completed medical treatment?
When your medically prescribed physiotherapy phase ends, you are often not yet fully back to your everyday life. This is exactly where the follow-up training program begins: a structured, individualised movement and strength-building program that picks up seamlessly after completed medical treatment. It is not a medical treatment and not a substitute for physiotherapy — it is the next logical step toward more freedom of movement in everyday life and rebuilding performance capacity.
What happens during a movement analysis?
The movement analysis is not a medical diagnostic procedure — it is a structured overview of your current movement patterns, your strengths, and your limitations. We look together: How do you move? Where are there asymmetries or compensations? What are your priority training goals for the next 12 weeks? The result is a written baseline assessment — not a medical diagnosis.
Is training really safe for older adults?
Yes — with the right dosage. Every training session is individually tailored to your current physical capacity, pre-existing conditions, and goals. I ask for medical clearance before training when relevant pre-existing conditions are present. Training takes place within your current capabilities — no overloading, with clear progression logic. Senior movement is one of my specialist areas, and I bring both the professional training and 14 years of experience to it.
How long does a typical training program last?
The first main block lasts 8–12 weeks — this is the time in which measurable progress is made and a sustainable training routine is established. After the re-check, you decide how to continue: adjust and extend the program, reduce intensity, or carry on independently with an optional monthly check-in. There is no minimum subscription and no contract commitment.
Can I exercise during or after cancer?
In many cases yes — and it is even evidence-based recommended (S3-Leitlinie — the German clinical guideline on movement therapy in oncology, published by the Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft, the German Cancer Society). Movement can support wellbeing, physical resilience, and quality of life during and after a cancer diagnosis. I have completed a specific further training in movement support for people living with cancer and accompany people in this situation. Requirement: medical clearance is mandatory. Please speak with your oncologist first. Important: movement support is not a substitute for medical treatment.
Who is aqua training particularly suitable for?
Aqua training is especially helpful when land-based training is not yet fully possible due to joint loading, excess body weight, or restrictions following surgery. Water reduces the load of gravity and enables gentle, joint-friendly movement combined with resistance training. I hold an Aqua Trainer Basic certification. A concrete swimming pool partner in Berlin will be announced soon.
What happens to my health data and training file?
Your training file is treated confidentially and used solely for training planning and documentation. I do not share data with third parties — including doctors — unless you explicitly request this and give written consent. Data is processed in accordance with the GDPR (DSGVO — German data protection law). Details can be found in the Privacy Policy.
How do I pay for training?
Individual sessions are invoiced after each session by bill or bank transfer. Packages (5-session, 10-session) are paid before the block begins. I accept bank transfer and — by arrangement — cash. Card payment is not currently available as standard. Full details can be found on the Pricing page and in the Terms & Conditions.
Is there a way to try out the training first?
The free 15-minute initial phone call gives you a first sense of whether my approach fits your situation. After that, you can book a single first session (60 min, full price) — with no obligation to continue. I do not offer a discounted "trial session", because every session deserves the same quality and preparation. But after the first session, you will know whether we want to work together.
