Who is the return-to-sport program for?

The program is aimed at active recreational athletes and amateurs who want to return to their sport in a structured and safe way after an injury layoff — without setbacks from loading too early or too heavily.

T
Tobias, 38
Hobby runner, Berlin-Mitte

After an achilles tendon irritation, Tobias took three months off. His goal: back to 10 km in under 55 minutes. He knows he cannot simply pick up where he left off — he needs a plan that builds him up safely without repeating the same loading mistake.

→ Running comeback after achilles tendon irritation
A
Anna, 42
Tennis player, Berlin-Charlottenburg

Tennis elbow cut Anna's season short. Medical clearance is in hand — but she still doesn't trust herself to serve at full power. She wants a gradual movement rebuild that makes her arm load-ready before she steps back onto the court.

David, 29
Amateur-league footballer, Berlin-Friedrichshain

A muscle fiber tear stopped David's season. His club is waiting for his return. He doesn't want to come back too soon — but he also doesn't want to sit out longer than necessary. He needs sport-specific tests that tell him when he is ready for team training.

What you receive with the return-to-sport program

Sport-specific movement analysis

At the outset Julio analyses your movement patterns and load capacity in a sport-specific way — using standardised functional tests as the baseline for your program.

Individual return-to-sport plan

A written plan with clear load levels, progression criteria and target date — adapted to your sport and your personal pace.

Progression-controlled load increases

Each training phase is only advanced after a functional test is passed. No guessing — measurable criteria determine the next step.

Exercise reference material

Video references for all exercises in the plan for independent training between sessions. You understand what you are doing — and why.

Between-session support

Questions about exercises, load or how your body feels? Julio responds via WhatsApp / email within 24 hours.

Completion certificate & program documentation

At the end you receive a written summary of the completed program — useful as documentation for your club, coach or physician.

How your return-to-sport program works

  1. 01

    Free 15-min initial call

Julio listens to your situation: sport, injury layoff, target date, medical clearance. You learn what a structured follow-up training program concretely means. No sales pitch — you decide afterwards.

  2. 02

Initial movement analysis & baseline tests (60 min)

In the first shared session Julio analyses your current movement patterns, carries out sport-specific standard tests and establishes your individual starting load. This session counts as a full training unit.

  3. 03

    Structured return-to-sport program (8–16 weeks)

Progression-controlled sessions, 1–2× per week. Each phase concludes with a functional test before load is increased. You train with clear intermediate goals — and always know where you stand in the program.

  4. 04

Return-to-sport final test & program completion

Julio conducts a final sport-specific load test. Only once the criteria are met do you and Julio jointly declare the program complete. You receive the written program documentation.

Frequently asked questions about return to sport

Which sports is the return-to-sport program suitable for?
The return-to-sport program is suitable for virtually all sports: running, cycling, team sports (football, handball, basketball), racket sports (tennis, badminton, squash), strength training and functional training. Julio develops a sport-specific load rebuild program that accounts for the precise movement demands of your sport — from running rhythm and change-of-direction to striking and throwing mechanics.
What requirements do I need to meet before starting the program?
If you have a medical history — for example after a completed surgical procedure or an extended injury layoff — medical clearance is strictly required before the program begins. This clearance is not a formality; it is the foundation for safe progression planning. Julio works exclusively within the scope of that clearance and, where needed, coordinates communication with your treating physician.
How long does a return-to-sport program take?
Program duration depends on sport, target load level and individual baseline. Structured return-to-sport programs typically span 8 to 16 weeks with 1–2 training sessions per week. After an initial movement assessment, Julio and you agree on a concrete timeline based on your target date — for example a competition date or return to team training.
What sets the return-to-sport program apart from regular personal training?
The decisive difference lies in progression-controlled load increases and sport-specific functional tests. Each phase of the program concludes with a standardised functional test (e.g. single-leg hop test, change-of-direction test) before the next load level begins. Julio draws on his rehabilitation experience from inpatient and outpatient facilities to prevent load jumps — the most common cause of setbacks when returning to sport.
Can the program be valuable after completed medical treatment?
Yes — the return-to-sport program starts exactly where medical treatment ends. After completed medical treatment there is often a gap between "medically cleared" and "sport-ready under load". Julio bridges that gap with a structured follow-up training program that builds sport-specific load capacity step by step — until you can return to your sport with confidence and trust.
Where does the training take place?
Training takes place at various locations depending on sport and training phase: outdoors in Berlin parks (Tempelhofer Feld, Volkspark Friedrichshain, Treptower Park) for running, jumping and change-of-direction drills; partner studios for strength and stabilisation work; sports pitches for team-sport-specific sessions. Location choice is guided by your sport's requirements and agreed during the initial consultation.

Ready for your safe return to sport?
